Audio or video - which to choose?

Audio only intercom systems are becoming dated and a thing of the past, but, they are a budget friendly option all the same.

The audio system is more like a telephone. When a visitor presses the call button it will buzz the handset inside thus enables to receive “calls” from front door or some other door on the outside of the building. There can be one individual handset or numerous throughout, these can also be used to talk from room to room if required.

Video intercoms are far more popular now. They are getting very affordable and in addition to sound, they offer colour images, picture memory and zoom options.

The obvious advantage of a video intercom system is that the users can safely see their potential visitors without opening the door.

Wireless intercom or wired intercom?

It is always best to have cables at the intercom if possible as it is far more reliable and you don’t have to worry about replacing the battery every few months.

One major benefit of wireless intercom systems over a traditional wired one is that instillation of the intercom is far quicker, but there may be more setup involved with the software.

Traditionally intercoms are hard wired, they have cables from unit to unit or everything is wired back to one point, with the gate latch generally going back to the door station.

Intercom wiring is similar to telephone wires. They can easily be installed and hidden inside the walls or floor mouldings during new construction or building renovation. The wired intercoms provide good quality, clear and reliable communication. They can be run as specific AV cable or cat5e cables are also a reliable choice.

Great service and communication from Westcork. Alan was highly professional and the installation went smoothly. The preparation process they use was helpful, with Alan sending a video discussing the installation plan and what was needed prior to installation. Everything went smoothly and without issue.

I found Westcork Electrical from Google reviews and my experience was just as positive as others - he was super responsive, friendly and helpful, and I found his comprehensive quote process really easy and transparent. He did a combo of small and more intricate work with our place and he took the time and care to explain every aspect of the job in detail, as well as check on a few other little things around the place while he was there. Thanks for a job well done, Alan!
