Ceiling fan install - Leichhardt 'Italian Forum'

This job was in a split-level townhouse at the Italian Forum in Leichhardt. Really nice place, but like a lot of older builds, it just wasn’t set up for how people live now.

The owners wanted to install five DC ceiling fans — one for each bedroom and a couple in the living areas. No fans had ever been installed, and the ceilings were fully finished, so we had to be smart about it. We fished cables through the ceiling spaces without making a mess, no cutting holes, no plaster damage — just neat and clean.

Each fan also needed its own isolation switch to meet warranty requirements. A lot of people skip that step, but we follow the manual and do it right the first time. It can cause huge drama's down the track if a remote looses programing or a warraty issue happens.

While we were there, we noticed the lighting circuit on the switchboard was still on an old breaker. So we swapped it out for an RCD, which brings it up to standard and gives proper electrocution protection. Quick upgrade, but a critical one. While installing we also discovered some burning, caused by a loose connection - lucky! (image below)

In the kitchen, we also added two quad PowerPoints. They were constantly juggling appliances — kettle, toaster, blender, air fryer — all plugged into double adapters. Now it’s a proper setup, with outlets where they actually need them.

Start to finish, it was all about clean retrofitting with zero damage. If you’ve got an apartment or townhouse and want to upgrade without trashing your walls or ceilings, we’ve got you covered.
