Pendant Light and Ceiling Fan Install - Balmain

Rob in Balmain wanted a pendant light hung in a spot that never had one. Not a swap, a brand new position, which is always where the questions start.

The ceiling had us a bit nervous. Until you open one up, you never know what is waiting. Timber in the way, something tight, something that turns a simple job into a long day. We had no idea what we were in for.

Luckily, once we got up there, we found a way through.

The ceiling had been renovated at some point, which meant there was a second ceiling sitting above the first. That gap gave us room to thread the cable across without tearing anything apart. It saved Rob a lot of mess, and it saved us a lot of swearing.

With a bit of reworking of the cabling and a spare switch, we gave the new pendant light its own dedicated switch. It does its own thing now, no sharing with anything else.

To make the room feel right, we put a dimmer on the pendant and another on the downlights that stayed. Turn them down in the evening and the whole space softens. It is a small touch that changes how a room feels.

Since we were there, Rob had a few more things on the list.

We installed a ceiling fan upstairs, so the warmer nights are a lot easier to handle.

Outside, we fitted a weatherproof power point, handy for the garden, the tools or whatever comes up next.

Inside, we put another power point up in the ceiling. That one has a very specific job. They can plug in a CCTV camera and keep an eye on the dog whenever they are out. Nobody likes wondering what the dog is up to, so now they can just look.

What started as one pendant in a tricky ceiling turned into a handful of upgrades that make the place easier and nicer to live in. The unknown up there turned out kinder than we feared, and that is always a good day.

Thanks Rob, it was a pleasure working on your place, and give the dog a pat for us.
