Electrical meter box relocation Croydon

Jason, moved into his home about a year ago, before he got settled we added some power points and replaced lights to his liking - made it more homely. Not sure if you had this but when you move into your home, it still feels like it's not your until you add some touches of your own.

Having a great experience with us the first time round, now a diehard of Westcork Electrical, Jason came back to us for another electrical job.

On our first visit, we’d highlighted the condition of his meter box. In the meantime, he had a solar company install panels and a battery. It would have been ideal to relocate and upgrade the meter box before that, but timing didn’t allow it.

The main driver for this relocation was Jason’s plan to eradicate gas from the property. Cooking and heating would now be electric, which puts more demand on the switchboard and meter box.

For heating, he’s installing 3 x air-con units, and the cooker is now a free-standing induction oven combi unit — 40 amps on its own. For context, his old mains cables were only rated to about 50 amps total. If he used the EV charger we installed as well, it would leave the home with only ~18 amps to run everything else — not good.

For the meter box upgrade, we installed three-phase power, giving him 3 x 63 amps to the home — making it bulletproof for future additions. Please note: the meter shown in the photo is single-phase. It has since been upgraded by Jason’s retailer, Amber. As of this post, they’ve got some sharp deals for homes with batteries installed.

Check out the before-and-after images. The meter box was originally at the front door with a web of messy conduits. We relocated it to the side of the home, out of harm’s way.
