Garden Lighting Upgrade – Haberfield

This job was for William, a returning client in Haberfield. Over the years the garden had been renovated a few times, and the old garden lighting had taken a beating. Cables had been cut during landscaping, some fittings had been chewed through, and a few lights just stopped working altogether. It had reached the point where it made more sense to start fresh.

The goal was to properly light the garden again and highlight the trees and landscaping, but also make it easy for William to control from the house.

Because the house sits quite a distance from the back of the garden, running a brand new supply from the switchboard would have meant trenching a long way. Luckily the pool power supply was already nearby, so we installed a new lighting circuit from that location instead. Using smart switching, we were able to integrate the lighting with the existing pool setup.

Now the garden lights can be switched locally near the pool, but also controlled from inside the house using a Bluetooth smart switch and phone app. William can set timers, turn the lights on or off remotely, and automate the whole thing without leaving the couch.

For the lighting itself, we used a mix of fittings depending on what we wanted to highlight. The larger trees needed 25-watt uplights to reach the canopy and properly light them from below. Around the hedges and smaller plants we installed 7-watt feature lights to create softer accents and depth through the garden.

The result is a garden that actually comes alive at night again... the trees are properly lit, the pathways have subtle light, and everything can be controlled from a phone.
